A Systematic Perspective of Postural Control

چکیده

Maintaining a multi-jointed inverted pendulum in vertical position is an extremely challenging engineering problem. However, most healthy individuals not only can stand upright with ease, they can maintain stability during motion and under some perturbations. Many studies have shown that postural control involves very complicated interactions between many subsystems – i.e. sensory, neural, motor, and environment. It is essential to understand the contribution from each subsystem. The most important sensory inputs for postural control are from the visual, vestibular and somatosensory systems. Then the neural system has to interpret the inputs and issue appropriate commands to the muscles. Reflexes are crucial mechanisms for the body to maintain balance. Based on some postural control theories, many efforts have been spent on the investigation of postural control and many models have been proposed. However, due to the complexity of postural control, there are still ongoing researches attempting to get a better understanding of the system.

Effects of Balance Training on Postural Control in Athletes with Chronic Ankle Instability: A Systematic Review

Objective The Objective Ankle sprains are among the most common injuries in athletes. One of the limitations of people with chronic ankle instability is the lack of postural control. Balance and coordination training are among the most common interventions for people with chronic ankle instability. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of balance training on postural co...

Efficacy of Different Types of Foot Orthoses on Postural Control in Subjects With Lateral Ankle Sprain: A Systematic Review

Background and Objectives: Lateral ankle sprain is one of the most common injuries to the musculoskeletal system, especially among active people. This injury causes complex complications, such as recurrent sprain because of reduced postural control. Foot orthoses are among the interventions used to improve postural control in this population. This review aims to investigate foot orthoses to imp...

Effect of 12-week corrective exercises on postural sways in male students with pronation distortion syndrome

Pronation distortion syndrome is one of the most common abnormalities in the body that causes distortions in the structures of the skeletal structures of the lower extremities and increases postural sways. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of 12-week corrective exercises on postural sways in male students with pronation distortion syndrome. In this semi experimental research...

Neurology International 2015; volume 7:6057 The influence of fear of falling on orthostatic postural control: a systematic review

Posture is a complex sensory-motor behavior that can be influenced by the fear of falling (FoF) during environmental changes. The aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of FoF on orthostatic postural control in healthy individuals by a systematic review. Thirteen articles were selected. Some other articles (31 references) were used to contextualize and discuss the topic. Studies in t...

A systematic review of interventions conducted in clinical or community settings to improve dual-task postural control in older adults

BACKGROUND Injury due to falls is a major problem among older adults. Decrements in dual-task postural control performance (simultaneously performing two tasks, at least one of which requires postural control) have been associated with an increased risk of falling. Evidence-based interventions that can be used in clinical or community settings to improve dual-task postural control may help to r...
